Artist Statement

My work explores the human experience through several evolving series, including Asian figures, musicians, angels, realism, and abstract compositions. Across these bodies of work, I am developing a visual language that exists between realism and abstraction—one that captures the energy of being human, reflecting nature, depths of spirituality, with elements of modernism, and embracing the beauty of imperfection.

Using oil, acrylic, or a combination of both, I balance depth with vibrancy. Oil allows for richness and subtle dimension, while acrylic introduces boldness and immediacy. My previous style featured more curated backgrounds—stunning and vibrant compositions designed to be striking focal points within a space. In my newer work, I begin with layered painterly backgrounds, building atmosphere before introducing the subject. Portions of the figure are intentionally blurred or smeared back into the surface, dissolving boundaries between subject and environment. I then return to restore detail
that was lost in the process, allowing the painting to exist in a dynamic tension between clarity and abstraction.

Joy, empathy, humanity, music, culture, and spirituality are central questions that guide my work. I am continually exploring what these qualities mean and why they matter. Within my musician series, and as a music lover, I also try to capture that moment of creativity, grit, or soul expression in whatever subject I am painting.  Painting becomes a way of capturing fleeting moments that remind us of our shared purpose and connection.

Ultimately, I hope each piece invites the viewer into a moment of reflection, something that resonates with where they have been, where they are, or who they aspire to become. My work is meant to feel personal, like a reflection of one’s own journey within the space of home.
